GAY PEOPLE'S CHRONICLE

B-23

Imagine if there were no Youngstown Pride Center

by Patrick Pacalo

Suppose somebody just coming out in Youngstown picked up a Gay People's Chronicle and there was no listing of an LGBT community center in the area.

Suppose there

were no weekly LGBT

support

group meeting in Youngstown.

Suppose the annual LGBT Hal-

loween party and

summer

The

Pride

picnic Center

were canceled.

Suppose

the

Pride Center newsletter stopped being an illuminator of LGBT issues in the Mahoning Valley.

Suppose instead of being a united LGBT community we were scattered

in little clusters around the Valley with no focus.

Suppose the Pride Center board stopped meeting to plan for a better future for the LGBT community and to engage in such functions as grant writing.

All these things could happen without financial support for the Pride Center and without the help of volunteers.

The Youngstown Pride Center estimates that it needs $2,000 in the next 90 days to keep solvent for the next year. In addition, in order to be eligible to receive a $25,000 grant for which it has applied, $1,000 beyond normal budgetary needs must be raised on the center's own efforts. To help to meet these goals,

please write a check for at least $25 (or whatever you can send). contributions are fully tax-deductible.

The first $25 of your contribution (or $15 for students, over 50, and low-income folks) will purchase membership for one year, and

of Greater Youngstown

for those already a member, the contribution will renew that membership as of the day the payment is received.

In return, the center will stay open and keep things happening for the Mahoning Valley LGBT community.

Please mail checks, made out to Pride Center of Greater Youngstown, to 1105 Elm Street, Youngstown, Ohio 44505.

For more information on the Youngstown Pride Center, please call 330-747-7433 or log onto www.angelfire.com/oh5/youngstown pride.
